At 433 yds off the white tee this is the 2nd longest hole on the course. A straight drive is essential as anything straying left brings the pond into play. Your approach shot is into a smallish green that is protected front left and right by 2 bunkers, and anything long will leave a chip up the bank protecting the rear of the green. A difficult starting hole!

The 1st par 3 on the course. The pond in front of the tee shouldn’t come into play but is always in the back of the minds of the high handicapper. The green is quite long and relatively narrow and slopes back to front, and the green is protected left and right by bunkers. A good chance for par or better.

Arguably the most difficult hole on the front 9. A long drive up the left side of the fairway is required if the green is to be reached in regulation, with the green guarded front right by a large oak tree that makes it difficult to get over and stay on the green. Also there is a pond to the left that is always a risk for any approach shot. A 5 is a good score for the average golfer.

A straight forward hole that gives the opportunity to get your card going. The centre bunker short of the green should only come into play for the longest hitters, or any miss hit approach shot. The bank at the back of the green can help stop any over hit shot and can feed the ball back to the putting surface. The green is protected left and right by bunkers. A good opportunity for par or better.

A driveable green for those who want to take it on. For those more cautious, your drive should be towards the left hand side as the fairway runs left to right and your ball will feed down towards the trees separating the 4th and 5th fairways. The green is protected at the front by 2 bunkers and anything long will be difficult to play (if found) from the rough at the back. The green provides the most protection with a slope front to back and left to right. You do well to only 2 putt this green!

A short par 3, but a beauty of a hole. The green is protected front right by a pond that will play on the mind of mid to high handicappers and those who hit a fade or draw. There is a bunker to the left, so hitting the green is vital. The green slopes left to right, so again you do well to only 2 putt. Take a par and move on!

You need a straight tee shot that doesn’t slice as the canal is to the right. If you avoid the out of bounds, you are probably faced with a blind shot in, and any ball that pitches short on the down slope runs the risk of a nasty kick that can run the ball through the green to dense rough at the rear or a bunker protecting the left hand side of green. A tricky green with many borrows.

A short par 4, from an elevated tee to a green well protected by bunkers left and right. Anything missing the fairway runs the risk of your approach shot being blocked by the mature clusters of trees lining the fairway. A good drive will leave you with a short pitch in. The green has some interesting borrows, but you should expect to par this hole.

A straight tee shot is essential – left or right of the fairway and there is little hope hitting the green in 2. The bank in front will stop any short shot, and you must avoid the deep bunker to the left. In summer it is best to land short and run up – otherwise you will find yourself on the bank behind the green. Check the pin position on the 9th as you walk from the tee on the 8th.

According to the Stroke Index this should be an easy start to the back 9. Beware of straying right or you’ll be out of bounds or struggle with your approach shot. Fairway bunkers short of the green means you need an accurate tee shot. The green is surrounded by trees so anything wayward is punished with a lost ball. The green slopes back to front, so you will need to stop the ball quickly. Walk away with a par or a bogey and be happy!

A long par 3 to a green that used to be a pond. Don’t be fooled as you stand on the tee, as you see the fairway disappear there is another 20 yards to the green. Many a shot will end up short with the golfer thinking he’s on the green. The green sits in a natural bowl leading back to when it was full with water, so anything slightly off line may still make the putting surface. This green is extremely difficult to read with many humps and hollows that change the direction of you ball.

Our signature hole and an absolute beauty of a hole that has danger written all over it. Laying up at the gulley that makes the dog leg is the only realistic option, and you must be left to have even a slight view of the green. A difficult approach still awaits, the green runs front to back and is difficult to stop the ball on. A par is a good score, mid to high handicappers will be happy with bogey or double bogey.

The nemesis of many a member. On paper this hole should be an easy par but with out of bounds down the right that acts like a magnet to any ball. Downhill, a nice wide fairway, it couldn’t be any easier. The pond on the left at 90yds out shouldn’t come into play. The fairway slopes downhill towards the green that is protected to the right by 2 bunkers, anything long will run down the bank at the rear or worse still end up Out of Bounds.

A dog leg right with Out of Bounds all the way down the right. Your drive will need to go out over the large tree on the left and ideally find the left hand side of the fairway, anything right leaves you with a blind shot up and over a small copse. 2 bunkers sit at the angle of the dog leg and are in driving distance from the tee, a lesser club maybe a better option. You should have an easy approach shot to a picturesque green with bunkers to the left and right. A good opportunity for par.

This hole is understood to be the 5th longest par 3 in Cheshire. Make a decision – do you GAMBLE and go for the green in 1 (230 yds) or lay up short of the ditch for an easy pitch into the green? The large green is protected both sides by bunkers. This par 3 has a Stroke Index of 7 for a reason. Fortune does not always favour the brave!

Nearly home. This stroke index 1 hole favours a draw – straight you may get away with – a fade/slice and you’re in trouble. A ditch at 155 yds (at its shortest) splits the fairway – laying up may be a safer option and reach the green in 3. Then it’s a turn left up the hill to an elevated green. Be short of the pin for an uphill putt. Past the pin, and good luck with the putt back.

A down hill par 3. Out of Bounds to the left and rear of the green, a bunker front right of the green that gives the green keeper a sadistic option for a pin position. Club selection and accuracy off the tee is essential. Miss the green right and you’re left with a difficult chip to the green which will bring the bunker into play.

The only par 5 on the course, uphill, 521 yards, a difficult finish. From the tee you have to avoid the ditch that separates the 18th and 16th fairways. Then probably 2 (or 3) good shots to make the green – all uphill. Ball position on the green relative to pin position is critical on this putting surface. Anything from the back of the green encounters a cruel slope, and will run your ball past the hole. The green also had many subtle hollows and breaks making 3 putts (or worse) quite common.
